Covenant College, Zambia
Covenant College is a missionary training institution in Eastern province Zambia. Nowadays being a training institution for Christian church leaders, the institution started in 1998 as a farm for missionaries to rest and replenish from their work. While the scope of the institution shifted towards missionary work throughout the years, the farm supported the missionary work financially. With a focus on the training institution, the farm of Covenant College however did not thrive. Therefore, a project was set up to re-energize the farm. Quadraat Global was involved in the development of a business plan based on market research and our expertise on agriculture in Africa. This led to a new approach to the farm, making it a profitable and successful addition to the training institution again.
The farm of Covenant College has developed into a sunflower farm, serving as demo farm and training center for smallholder farmers. The farm is regenerative meaning it focuses on ecosystem restoration, improvement of soil fertility, water management and biodiversity. A sunflower processing unit was placed to transform the harvested sunflowers into sunflower oil and cake. The Covenant College farm thus combines educating a new generation of farmers with caring for the environment. Quadraat Global is now supporting the local management of Covenant College.
